Thursday, April 18th 7:00 pm – Maundy Thursday
This day begins the Holy Triduum, the three most sacred days leading to Easter. On Thursday night we remember and reenact Jesus washing of his friends’ and enemy’s feet in humble service, as he gives the commandment to us that we “love one another as he has loved us”. Following the foot-washing, we remember the last supper with Holy Eucharist for Maundy Thursday. The night ends with candle light and then darkness as we sit in silence for the Stripping of the Altar, at the end of which the tabernacle with reserved sacrament is removed and the last light is extinguished. We leave in silence to ponder the betrayal of Christ and the suffering that is to come.
